Just in Brain Surgery
I,m a brain neurosurgeon, and when I saw the bleeding occure into the brain (complete steril field), and losed blood is mixed only with CSF, also you all know that CSF dont cause any damage to the blood (we do a shunt in case of cerebral hydrocefalus from cerebral ventricole into the heart via cervical vene), so we have a blood , steril, not mixed with anything that is contraindicated for reinfuse. Dont forget that I said that we must use it only in extreme dangerous situations for patients life. we can give the patients in time of cerebral operation all his losed blood immediatelly. Please I ask help from an cerebral brain anesthesiolog, to start a scientific discussions about that,. Only cerebral surgery anesthesiolog can understand that. I sent a letter to the Editor of Anesthesiology (the journal of the american society of anesthesiologists), and in February 5, 2001 I get this answer: Reference MS # 20010113: letter to the Editor: Blood Saver Dear Dr. Sultaneh: Thank you for your letter, but I dont believe it is appropriate for publication in Anesthesiology. The problem you describe is a very real one. However, I have a general rule against publishing untested good ideas. First, there are simply too many. Secound, good ideas are often proven wrong when actually tried in clinical medicine. Essentially, all you have done is describe a method for collecting a mixture of blood and CSF without hemolysis. Whether this approach is clinically useful or not is completely unclear. Unfortunately, without such information, I dont know whether this is really a useful technique. I realize this decision is disappointing, but I hope these comments/suggestions will prove to be helpful. I am returning your letter, keeping one copy for our permanent files. Thank you for considerig Anesthesiology, and, in spite of this decision, I hope you will consider us in the future. Sincerely, (signature) Michael M. Todd, M. D. Editor-in- Chief
